MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION SOUTH WALES

We Make Music Videos

Build the visual around the track.

Performance, narrative, live-session and promotional films for artists and bands across South Wales.

We develop an idea that fits the music, then plan the locations, performance, lighting and coverage needed to make it work on the actual filming day.

MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION SOUTH WALES

SELECTED WORK

Start with what the finished film can look like

A music video does not need a huge production to have an identity. Location, performance, camera movement, lighting and editing can do a lot when they are planned around the track.

Two films produced from the same location and filming period, using enough performance coverage and visual variation to give each track its own edit.

THE IDEA FOLLOWS THE MUSIC

Performance, story or something between the two

Some tracks need little more than a performer, a strong location and good coverage. Others benefit from characters, scenes and a more deliberate narrative.

The treatment should suit the track and be achievable with the available budget, locations and filming time. A smaller idea executed properly will usually work better than an ambitious concept that has to be compromised on the day.

CREATIVE, PRACTICAL PRODUCTION

The treatment has to survive contact with the real shoot

The strongest idea is one that suits the music and can actually be produced well with the people, locations, time and money available.

Before filming, we agree the references, locations, schedule, playback and the coverage the edit will need. That gives us room on the day for strong wides, close detail, movement and different performance choices without constantly stopping to rethink the production.

BEFORE WE BUILD THE TREATMENT

Send the track and the practical details first

You do not need to arrive with a finished concept. We need enough real information to develop one that can actually be booked and produced.

✓ TRACK

A finished track or near-final mix.

✓ BUDGET

The realistic amount available for the production.

✓ RELEASE

The intended release window and any fixed deadline.

✓ AVAILABILITY

Artist, band, contributors and key locations already involved.

Once those are clear, we can decide how ambitious the treatment can realistically be. See the video pricing for a starting point.

SELECTED MUSIC VIDEO WORK

Different tracks need different visual choices

Performance, narrative and promotional work from previous productions.

ON THE FILMING DAY

Get enough variation for the edit without killing the energy

Performance coverage needs repetition, but the day should not feel like endlessly playing the same section while the camera moves a few feet at a time.

We plan the essential wides, close-ups, movement, playback and performance coverage beforehand, then use the location and available time to find extra shots that give the edit character.

For narrative work, the same principle applies: know which scenes have to work before spending time on optional ideas.

✓ PERFORMANCE

Enough complete coverage to cut confidently.

✓ DETAIL

Hands, faces, instruments, movement and environment.

✓ LIGHTING

A look that stays consistent through the sequence.

✓ CONTINUITY

Especially important when narrative scenes have to join together.

RELEASE CONTENT

Plan the shorter versions while we have the artist and location

The main music video may be the priority, but the same filming can also provide material for the release campaign.

If shorter clips are required, we can protect shots for vertical framing and capture enough variation for teasers, loops, announcement clips and other promotional edits.

Editing and delivery can be handled through our post-production service.

MUSIC VIDEO FAQ

Useful things to settle before filming

What makes a workable music-video treatment?

It needs a clear visual idea that fits the track and can be achieved with the available budget, performers, locations and filming time.

References are useful, but the treatment should be designed around what is actually available rather than reproducing another artist’s video shot for shot.

How much filming time should we allow?

It depends on the treatment. A straightforward performance video in one prepared location may be filmed relatively quickly. Multiple setups, lighting changes, narrative scenes, costume changes or several locations increase the time substantially.

The schedule is worked out once the treatment is clear.

What makes a good music-video location?

The location needs to work visually but also practically. Access, permission, available space, power, light, playback, weather and whether the performers can work there comfortably all matter.

A visually impressive location that causes constant production problems is rarely a bargain.

When does a narrative video make sense?

When the track suggests a story, character or idea that is stronger than performance alone.

Narrative work usually needs more pre-production because scenes, contributors, props, wardrobe and continuity have to be organised before filming.

How involved is the artist in the creative decisions?

Very. The artist remains involved in the treatment and the important creative choices. Our job is to turn those ideas into a production plan and make sure the technical side supports them.

What happens after filming?

The edit is built around the structure and rhythm of the track, using the strongest performances, visuals and narrative material captured on the day.

A review version is supplied for feedback before the final master and any agreed promotional versions are delivered. See post-production.

What information is useful when asking for a quote?

Send the track, working budget, likely filming dates, release target and any locations or creative references already being considered.

That is enough to start discussing what is realistic. You can also check the video pricing page before getting in touch.
