What experience has taught us
A good case study can be filmed quickly. A better one is planned carefully.
Many case studies can be filmed in as little as two to four hours, particularly when there is one contributor, one location and a clear story.
Where the budget allows, we recommend a full filming day. It gives the interview time to settle, leaves room for a second voice or shorter takes, and means we can capture enough workplace, product, service and detail footage to make the edit feel complete rather than rushed.
The filming plan starts with what the customer can genuinely prove: the original challenge, why they chose the supplier, what happened during the work and what changed afterwards.
When somebody does not like being filmed
Do not force one perfect performance
Some customers are relaxed on camera. Others are not, and that is completely normal on a case study shoot.
We usually recommend two takes: first a natural answer with room to talk, then a shorter version once the contributor knows what they want to say. The second take is often cleaner and easier to use.
If somebody is really struggling, we can simplify it further: record a confident intro and outro on camera, then let them read or record the middle more comfortably while the edit shows the workplace, project, product or service. The viewer still hears the customer without making the whole film depend on a long talking-head performance.

Keep the story easy to follow
Challenge → decision → delivery → result
Challenge — what was happening before the work began?
Decision — why did the customer choose this business or approach?
Delivery — what actually happened, and what was the experience like?
Result — what changed, improved or became possible afterwards?
That structure gives the interview direction without scripting the customer. Supporting footage then proves the story visually instead of leaving every claim as spoken words.
Make the filming day earn its keep
One visit can create more than one case study film
A full day can include the main customer interview, a second contributor where useful, workplace or project footage, photographs and shorter answers for sales or social use.
We plan those outputs before filming so vertical clips, stills and extra footage do not become an afterthought. See our photography and marketing video production services where those are part of the brief.
For a straightforward job, the shorter two-to-four-hour approach can still work very well. The difference is simply how much evidence and variety there is time to capture.
Focused customer testimonial: filmed within a compact two-hour window.
Across Wales and the UK
Film the case study where the customer story actually happened
We regularly travel for corporate case study filming across Wales and the UK. Interviews can take place at your office, the customer’s premises or the project location, with the supporting footage gathered around the same visit.
South Wales coverage includes Cardiff, Newport, Swansea and Bridgend, with UK-wide filming planned around the project rather than a fixed local template.
Case studies can also sit within a wider corporate video production brief when several customer stories or locations need a consistent look.
Case study video FAQs
Practical questions before filming
How much filming time should we allow?
A simple one-location case study can often be filmed in two to four hours. We recommend a full day when the brief needs several contributors, stronger B-roll, photography or more than one finished version.
Who should appear in the film?
Usually the customer or stakeholder closest to the result. A second voice from your project or account team can add context, but the customer should remain the main proof.
Can you prepare the interview questions?
Yes. We build questions around the challenge, decision, delivery and result, then look for specific examples rather than rehearsed praise.
What if the customer is uncomfortable on camera?
We keep the setup calm, allow repeats and usually record a shorter second take. If needed, the contributor can appear for a simple intro and outro while the middle is carried by their voice and supporting footage.
Plan the customer story
