TESTIMONIAL VIDEOS
FROM BRIEF TO FINAL EDIT
WHY TESTIMONIALS WORK
Let the person who experienced the service explain what changed
A good testimonial is not a list of compliments. It gives a prospective customer something more useful: what the situation was before, why the client chose you, what the experience was actually like and what changed afterwards. That structure makes the film feel like evidence rather than advertising.
We normally film testimonials as guided conversations rather than asking people to memorise a script. Contributors know the themes in advance, but the wording remains theirs. The interviewer sits beside camera and asks short, open questions until we have answers that sound natural, complete and specific enough to stand on their own in the edit.
The testimonial can remain a simple interview, or we can add B-roll showing the workplace, product, team, property, service or project being discussed. That turns a talking-head testimonial into a stronger customer story because viewers can see the evidence behind the words.
TESTIMONIAL FORMATS
Choose the amount of story the audience needs
Some briefs need one convincing voice. Others work better as a fuller case-study story supported by footage of the product, place or service.
Customer testimonial
A concise customer or client interview focused on experience, trust and outcome. Ideal for service pages, landing pages, sales presentations and social proof.
Testimonial + B-roll
The interview is supported with relevant footage of the business, project, property, product or people being discussed, giving the viewer visual evidence as well as the contributor’s words.
Testimonial series
Film several customers, service users or stakeholders during one organised day and create individual edits, a combined montage or shorter clips for campaigns and social channels.
TESTIMONIAL EXAMPLES
Different people need a different pace and interview style
A seminar attendee, homeowner and business client will not respond to the same questions in the same way. The production should adapt to the contributor rather than force everyone into one formula.
PREPARATION
Prepare the story — not a speech
Before filming, we establish who the audience is, why this particular customer is worth hearing from and what the viewer needs to understand by the end. The contributor can be sent themes or example questions in advance, but we usually avoid giving them polished answers to memorise.
Useful testimonial questions normally move through a simple journey: What problem or need existed? Why did you choose this company? What was the experience like? Was there a moment that stood out? What changed afterwards? Who would you recommend the service to? The exact wording remains conversational on the day.
We also decide what supporting footage can prove or illustrate those answers. If someone talks about a manufacturing process, completed property, healthcare service or live project, it is far stronger when the edit can cut to something relevant instead of relying on stock footage.
FILMED WHERE THE STORY MAKES SENSE
Offices, factories, homes, events, hospitals and project sites
The strongest testimonial location is often where the experience actually happened. We regularly work in offices, manufacturing facilities, healthcare environments, homes, show properties, venues and live events. The setup is adjusted around the room rather than expecting every contributor to travel to a studio.
We assess the background, available depth, noise, natural light, power and how much disruption the location can tolerate. A compact two-camera setup works well for many testimonials because it gives the edit a second angle without turning the room into a large production set.
Clean sound matters more than an elaborate background. Lavaliere and directional microphones are available, with professional lighting used where needed. If the location is busy, we plan around quieter windows or choose a nearby room that still feels connected to the organisation.
HOW IT WORKS
A relaxed process that still gets to the useful answers
1. Choose the right customer
Identify someone with a real experience, a clear outcome and enough detail to help the next buyer understand what working with you is like.
2. Shape the questions
Agree the themes and likely story arc in advance. We keep questions open and conversational so the contributor answers in their own language.
3. Film the conversation
Set cameras, lighting and microphones around the location, then guide the contributor through the interview without rushing them.
4. Capture supporting B-roll
Film the product, workplace, property, team, process or environment being discussed so the story has visual proof and context.
5. Build the strongest version
Select concise answers, remove repetition and arrange the edit around problem, experience, outcome and recommendation where the material supports it.
6. Create useful cutdowns
Add names, branding, captions and music where appropriate, then supply the main film plus shorter versions or individual clips when commissioned.
How to prepare someone for a testimonial
1 Make participation clear and comfortable
Explain where the film will be used
Tell the contributor whether the testimonial is for your website, a sales campaign, social media, an event or internal communication. Confirm who will see it and whether their name, job title or organisation will appear.
Send themes, not polished answers
A short list of topics helps people feel prepared. Fully scripted praise usually sounds less believable and makes nervous contributors worry about remembering exact wording. We can repeat questions and edit out pauses or false starts.
Choose a relevant location
A real workplace, home, project or venue adds context. We only need a reasonably quiet area with enough space to position the contributor away from the background and set lights without blocking normal operations.
Allow enough time for the contributor to settle in. The first answer is rarely the one we use. A few minutes of ordinary conversation normally helps people forget about the cameras and start speaking more naturally.
2 Give the interview a useful shape
Start before the solution
Ask what the person was trying to achieve or what problem they had before they found you. Without that context, the viewer hears praise but does not understand why the result matters.
Ask for specifics
Details make testimonials believable: what surprised them, what became easier, what happened differently, what colleagues noticed or what they would tell somebody considering the same decision.
Finish with recommendation
A natural recommendation works best after the contributor has already explained the experience. It then feels like the conclusion to their story instead of the opening line of an advert.
If the testimonial involves sensitive personal information, healthcare, vulnerable people, confidential projects or regulated claims, agree what can and cannot be discussed before the camera rolls. Final factual approval should remain with the client and contributor.

Testimonial video FAQs
Should customers be given a script?
Usually no. We prefer to share the themes or likely questions so the contributor knows what to expect, then let them answer in their own words. If a precise factual statement must be included, we can handle that separately without making the entire testimonial feel memorised.
What if the customer is nervous on camera?
That is normal. We explain the setup, start with easy conversation and repeat questions where necessary. Contributors do not have to deliver a perfect answer in one take; the strongest parts are selected and tightened in the edit.
Can you film B-roll as well as the testimonial?
Yes. B-roll is often what turns a testimonial into a convincing customer story. We can film the workplace, team, product, property, service, project or other relevant detail during the same production where the schedule allows.
Can several customer testimonials be filmed in one day?
Yes. If contributors are scheduled properly and the location is organised, one filming day can produce several separate testimonials. We can keep a single interview setup in place or move between nearby departments, homes or business locations where practical.
How long should a testimonial video be?
There is no fixed length. A focused website testimonial may be around one to two minutes, while a fuller customer case study can run longer when the story needs context, process and outcome. We normally edit for usefulness rather than forcing every contributor into the same duration.
Can you create short social clips from the same interview?
Yes. The main testimonial can be cut into shorter vertical or landscape clips where the interview contains self-contained answers. Tell us which platforms matter before filming so framing, captions and deliverables can be planned from the start.
GOT A CUSTOMER STORY WORTH HEARING?
Plan a testimonial people will believe
Tell us who the customer is, where they are based, what they experienced and where the finished film will be used. We can suggest a simple interview structure, filming plan and quote without overcomplicating the production.
