SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO PRODUCTION SOUTH WALES

Social Video Made for the Screen It Will Be Watched On

Professional social media video production for businesses and organisations across Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bridgend and South Wales.

We plan landscape and portrait versions before filming, so the important parts of the shot still work on websites, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and other mobile-first channels.

Different messages need different approaches

People & service

Interview-led content that can be reduced into shorter campaign extracts.

Short campaign film

A focused message where pacing and running time matter from the start.

Product in action

Fast visual coverage that can be reshaped for different social placements.

LANDSCAPE AND PORTRAIT

Do not shoot one shape and hope it fits everything

Landscape video still works well for websites, YouTube, presentations and LinkedIn, while portrait video has become increasingly important for mobile-first social content. The problem is that a shot composed for one shape will not always survive being cropped into another.

A wide interview, group shot or demonstration may look excellent in 16:9 but lose people, products or important movement when converted to 9:16.

Plan the finished formats before filming

We agree the likely outputs before the cameras roll, including website, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and other social versions.

On-camera frame guides can show 16:9, 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1 at the same time, helping us position faces, products, logos and action where they remain usable across several edits. Open-gate recording can provide additional room above and below the normal widescreen frame.

Where a shot cannot sensibly serve every format, we record an alternative portrait or square composition. That gives the editor properly framed material rather than relying on aggressive cropping later.

one shoot several deliverables

What that means on the filming day

Interviews are framed with enough room for both shapes. Products and presenters stay inside the useful centre of the picture where appropriate, and important movement is planned so it does not disappear outside the portrait crop.

Some shots genuinely work better when filmed twice — once for landscape and once specifically for portrait.

HOW WE FRAME FOR BOTH

Frame guides and open gate — without the camera jargon

Frame guides

Lines on the monitor show where the finished landscape and portrait edges will be, so faces, products, logos and important action can be kept inside both versions while we are filming.

Open-gate recording

The camera records a taller master image, giving the edit more picture above and below when creating 16:9 and 9:16 versions from the same shot.

When a separate take is better

Wide groups, fast movement and off-centre compositions may still need a portrait-specific take. Open gate gives flexibility; it does not make every composition work automatically.

SOCIAL VIDEO DELIVERABLES

Plan the formats before the camera rolls

One shoot can supply several useful edits when the framing, pacing and outputs are agreed before filming.

Landscape edits

1

16:9 versions for websites, YouTube, presentations and suitable social placements.

Short cut-downs

3

Focused extracts built around one message, quote, product feature or call to action.

Portrait edits

2

9:16 versions planned for mobile viewing rather than treated as a crop of the landscape master.

Captioned versions

4

On-screen captions for material likely to be watched without sound.

PLAN THE OUTPUTS BEFORE THE SHOOT

A social edit should not be an accidental leftover

If you know you need a website film, LinkedIn version and vertical social clips, tell us before filming. We can then plan interview framing, demonstrations, movement, titles and supporting shots around those outputs.

A single filming day can often provide enough material for several useful edits, particularly when interviews, products, workplace footage and still photographs are planned together.

Planning a wider campaign?

If the job needs a main campaign film as well as social versions, the production can be planned as one set of deliverables rather than separate shoots.

SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO FAQ

Portrait, landscape and delivery questions

Which formats should we plan before filming?

List every place the material will be used before the shoot. A website or presentation may need 16:9, while Reels, Stories and other mobile-first placements may need 9:16. Knowing the formats in advance affects framing, movement and which shots should be filmed twice.

When does open-gate filming help?

Open-gate recording helps when one master shot needs enough picture above and below to support both wide and vertical edits. It gives the editor more room, but it does not remove the need for a dedicated portrait take when the composition or movement demands one.

How do frame guides protect portrait and landscape versions?

Frame guides show the boundaries of the intended formats while we are filming. They let us see immediately whether a face, product, logo or action will survive both crops rather than discovering the problem after the shoot.

How long should each social edit be?

Length should follow the job of the edit. A single message may only need 15–30 seconds, an interview extract may need 30–60 seconds, and a more complete social film may run longer. Each version should have one clear purpose rather than inheriting the length of the main film.

Which shots need a dedicated portrait take?

Groups, wide locations, demonstrations that spread across the frame and sideways movement are the usual warning signs. Those shots may need a second take composed specifically for 9:16 instead of forcing a poor crop later.

Which extra versions should be agreed before the shoot?

Agree the number of portrait and landscape versions, cut-down lengths, captions, thumbnails and any platform-specific versions before filming. That lets us shoot enough material for every output and price the job properly.

What to send us

Tell us the platforms, whether you need landscape, portrait or both, the number of finished edits and the main message. We can then plan the shoot around those formats from the start.
