The brief

RDD Ltd wanted a promotional film for its website showing cabinet manufacturing at its Bridgend premises. The production was designed to be led by pictures and music, with no interviews or voice-over.

The manufacturing processes, working environment and finished work therefore had to communicate the operation visually and hold attention without a spoken explanation.

Telling the story entirely through pictures

The purpose of the film was to show visitors to RDD’s website what the company does, the machinery it operates and the manufacturing capabilities available at its Bridgend facility.

The video was designed primarily as a website banner, so it needed to work without narration or sound. The filming therefore had to tell the story entirely through pictures.

Coverage included the wider production space, machinery in operation, movement through the facility and close views of tools, materials and work in progress. Without spoken explanation, every shot needed either to communicate something useful or help carry the viewer naturally into the next part of the manufacturing process.

Variety in shot size, camera movement and editing pace helped connect the smaller details with the scale of the wider operation.

Making industrial detail readable

Production environments contain a great deal of simultaneous activity. Selecting clear stages and distinctive visual details gave the edit a logical progression without implying specifications or processes beyond what was actually filmed.

The result

The finished website film is driven by manufacturing imagery, movement, editing and music. It gives visitors an immediate view of RDD’s Bridgend facility and cabinet production without requiring a presenter or explanatory narration.
